The Sunshine House is a licensed adult mental health residential group home for women located in Chesterfield, Virginia. We serve women ages 18-–65 who have experienced trauma, emotional challenges, or difficult home situations. We provide a safe, structured, and therapeutic home using the Sanctuary Model® of trauma-informed care.
2. Who do you serve?
We serve women ages 18 to 65 who are in need of home placement services due to behavioral and/or mental health needs, past trauma, or disrupted family situations. Referrals are typically made through local departments of social services or community service boards.
3. What is the Sanctuary Model?
The Sanctuary Model® is a nationally recognized trauma-informed framework that promotes safety, emotional intelligence, accountability, and community. It guides everything we do—from how we interact with residents to how we make program decisions.
4. How many women live in the home?
The Sunshine House is licensed for a maximum of three residents, allowing for individualized attention and a close-knit, family-style environment. Space is also designated for overnight staff to ensure 24/7 supervision and support.

24/7 trauma-informed care and supervision

6. Is The Sunshine House a locked facility?
No. We are a staff-secure, non-locked facility. Our program emphasizes safety through structure, trust, and consistent support—not physical barriers.

8. Can family visit or be involved?

9. Who works at The Sunshine House?
Our team includes trained direct care staff, a Program Director, and consulting mental health professionals. All staff receive training in trauma-informed care, behavior support, emergency response, and mandatory reporting. Background checks are conducted as required by Virginia regulations.
